State of the art antler restorationBeforeAfter

Antlers have to be pretty bad before restoration is no longer an option. Weathered antlers such as those pictured, must first be reinforced to insure their structural integrity. The surface textures characteristic to the antlers can then be reproduced. The final phase of restoration is the coloration of the antlers. This phase is determined consistent with the area from which they came. This particular set of antlers came from an area where the dominant vegetation type was pinon juniper. Typically this vegetation type secretes large amounts of pitch which attaches itself to the antlers during the scraping off of the velvet creating a dark finish.
